Our History
In the beginning of the 20th century, when the Borough of Folcroft was still very much a farming community, a group of residents gathered to establish a local church. After much prayer and discussion they settled on the current name of the church mostly because it spoke of the intent to unify people in the community under the common purpose of worshiping God through a relationship with His Son, Jesus. In 1926 the Folcroft Union Church was officially incorporated.
Throughout the years the physical property has undergone many changes including additions to the main footprint, creation of a large Family Room and parking lot. In the 1970s we were able to purchase the former firehouse next door and have been using that building for a variety of meetings, a local polling place and the chance to host sister churches who needed a physical building.
While history has provided a picture of the many changes, what has not changed is the original purpose of this incorporated church, and that is to worship and honor Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and share that relationship with others.
Our Beliefs
We believe the Bible to be the verbal, inspired Word of God and that it is the complete and final authoritative written revela¬tion of God’s will and work, and altogether sufficient in itself as a rule of faith and practice. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
We believe that there is but one living and true God, and He is revealed to us in three persons who are executing dis¬tinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption: Father – Genesis 1:1; Son – Luke 3:22, John 10:30; Holy Spirit – John 14:26, Mathew 28:19
We believe in the substitutionary sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ as the only means of salvation (1st Peter 2:24, Acts 4:12, Hebrews 10:10) and that it is the personal belief in this which saves from sin (John 1:12, 3:18; Romans10:9-10).
We believe in the personal abiding of the Holy Spirit in every believer. 1st Corinthians 6:19-20
We believe in the personality of Satan and the reality of spiritual warfare. Job 1:6-7, Luke 4:2-13, Eph. 6:12
We believe in the everlasting life with God for the believer and everlasting separation from God for unbelievers. John 3:36, Revelation 22:3-5, 2nd Thessalonians1:7-9, Matthew 25:41, Revelation. 20:10
We believe that true Christians must live a life set apart from worldliness. Romans 12:1-2, 2 Cor. 6:14-18, James 4:4, Colossians 3:1-2, 1st John 2:15-16.
We believe that the faith of a true Christian is manifest in a life of obedience to Christ and the Word of God. John 14:23-24
We believe that in the end times Jesus will rapture all living believers to Heaven; then a tribulation period of seven years will afflict the earth, followed by a thousand-year reign of Christ on the earth. After which Satan will be released for one last act of deception, culminating in his destruction and the final judgment of all unbelievers with the establishment of a New Heaven and New Earth for all believers forever. Zech. 14:3-4, 1st Thessalonians. 4:16-17, Revelation 20:3, 7, 10; 21:1
Our Pastors
We hold to the New Testament church principle of Elder leadership. In this plurality of leadership the Bible specifically describes their character and position. Thus, our church constitution describes them as follows:
- Each Elder must be a man of thirty years of age or older and have been a member in good standing for at least one year.
- He must possess a servant’s heart for the ministry and be a godly, spiritual man who is consciously and measurable striving to achieve the goals set forth for elders in 1st Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
- His marital status must conform to the biblical church policy on divorce and remarriage.
The Elders will be entrusted with the rulership and oversight of the entire Church program and congregation and are responsible for setting policies either directly or indirectly for the entire Church. Here are our current elders:
Pastor Drew Alexander
Elder George Kaiser
Elder John Buecheler
Elder Mark Pierce
Elder Evan Nurse
